Sailing with a waterproof video camera

May 11th, 2008 Posted in Gadgets, Sailing by Bill Blevins

On Saturday, Tracy and I took out our 2.4 Meters and I chased her boat around Canandaigua Lake trying to line up at least one interesting shot with a new Oregon Scientific ATC2K waterproof video camera strapped to the boom. After an hour of shooting video, I came up with three minutes that might be worth watching.

Very cool. I doubt you’ll want to use the following technique on the water, but since I know you’re a great photographer, on the off chance that you’ve never played with creating movies from time-lapsed stills, my buddy does it all the time, to great effect. Here’s one example:

Hadar, I visited your friends site. That time-lapse piece is cool. My camera will take images on auto so I’ll have to give that a try. I left a comment on his blog. I’m going to look into that process later today. Thanks for the tip!
